Sometimes You Just Need A Man

So I’ve been single for a few years now, well, more than a few. Majority of the time it doesn’t bother me. It’s one of those things that just is, something you don’t question like Valentine’s Day being February 14. Why? Because that’s when it is. Sure, there’s probably a reason behind it but it’s just accepted as being fact.

Today was one of those days where it would have been nice to have a man in my life. But not just any man, a handy type of man, one that fixes things around the house.

Last weekend I discovered the shelf in the bathroom vanity was damp. I figured it had to do with the increasingly dripping tap that I could no longer fix myself by shutting it off real tight. So I drove out to pick my dad up (since he no longer has a car) for him to fix it for me. He fixed the tap but discovered one of the pipes within the vanity was leaking.

“You need to call a plumber” he told me, “probably have to remove the whole vanity to get to those pipes”. Great, I sighed, how much is this going to cost me?

The plumber fixed the leak in under 10 minutes by simply tightening the bolt. Since he was here I also had him fix the leaking garden hose which I correctly presumed also just needed tightening (something my weak little arms couldn’t manage).

It was all a bit embarrassing really, I felt like such a helpless little women paying a professional tradesman $50 to simply ‘tighten’ a couple of bolts.

‘Now there’s a man for you, came straight to your front door and everything’ is what some of you may be thinking. Let me dispel that fantasy for you right now, I virtually had to kick him out of the house as he wouldn’t stop talking about his two kids (and the wife).

A Botanical Picnic

On this gloriously sunny day I was a most relaxed multi-tasker completing 101 list #64. Have a picnic with a friend, which also counted towards #46. Visit five local tourist attractions (we had lunch at the beautiful botanical gardens) and I followed January’s Saving Money is Easy challenge by enjoying free entertainment. Yeah me!

The Saving Money Is Easy Challenge – January

The Challenge: Enjoy a budget friendly summer holiday

How: In a nutshell – budget, research, coupons from the local tourist information centre, BYO breakfast and a picnic lunch, do a house swap, stay home and enjoy what your local community has to offer

Ok, so it may seem strange to start off the new-year by spending money but remember, saving doesn’t mean denying yourself, rather enjoying on the cheap. Plus, after all the hectic Christmas festivities I’m sure you need a holiday.

Hmm… seems like January is a good time to start on #46 of my 101 list, visit five local tourist attractions (enjoying the Australian summer whilst I’m at it).

Outcome: Come back February 1 and tell me how you went (and also find out what the February challenge is)
